Safer, More Precise Cataract Removal
Computer-guided laser incisions are up to ten times more accurate than manual incisions. This super-human precision allows ophthalmologists to implant single-vision, toric, or multifocal lenses and correct astigmatism by reshaping the cornea more reliably.
Bladeless, laser cataract surgery also uses less energy than ultrasound to break up cataracts, reducing the risk of corneal swelling. In short, laser cataract surgery is more precise and safer.
Fewer Side Effects, Faster Recovery
Another benefit of laser precision is that it tends to limit the chance of complications and side effects. Traditional cataract surgery is an effective and safe procedure but can increase swelling, and patients tend to notice eye discomfort and blurred vision or feel as if they have something in their eye more frequently during the recovery phase.
All the above are far less common with bladeless cataract surgery. Our patients often return to most of their everyday activities within a day of their surgery, even with bilateral cataract removal. However, it may take a week or two for your vision to stabilize, depending on your natural healing process.
